Hong Kong is awesome for budget backpackers. Don’t be fooled by its business like image. The city oozes cheap eateries, free sights, endless markets and a range of world class sights. It also has history, culture and nature bunged into a massive skyscraping metropolis.
Here is a look at some of the top sights you can experience in Hong Kong.
The skyline in Hong Kong is epic. It’s widely regarded as the number one skyline on the planet, eclipsing even New York and Singapore. You’ll want to check out an awesome view of Hong Kong and the best places to do that are the Peak, Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon waterfront. Amazing city!
Over on Lantau Island check out the Big Buddha! This is a major sight and really needs to be seen. Backpackers on a budget can hike up to it, while a cable car is also an option. Views are immense and this is a top tourist spot. Tourists from all over the world love it here.
There are a few quiet spots to sample in Hong Kong too, including Nan Lian Garden. Hong Kong has its peaceful parts too for sure and it’s good to get out of the city hub at times too and sample this peaceful life. They are inspired and influenced by gardens in some of China’s main provinces.
You also have Hong Kong Park. Yes in amongst the madness and mayhem is a massive park where there are birds, trees and butterflies. This place has tea shops and cafes and is a good place to relax while on Hong Kong island. There is a man made waterfall within too and you can chill out there. Don’t believe that Hong Kong is all about skyscrapers.
In terms of hiking and scenic walks, Hong Kong also offers a lot in this regard. One of the best hiking trails is known as the dragon’s back. This is on Hong Kong island. It tests the muscles and also offers scintillating views over the splendid city and countryside and further out to sea.
I totally recommend going backpacking or travelling in Hong Kong!
